EVERY empire ends. So the end of THIS empire was never in question. The only questions were how and when, and the answer to the second is manifestly "soon." The clown show is a sure sign.
This leaves us with how - and with my particular attachment. I wanted very much for us to elect a president who would knowingly and deliberately fold it down, securing every possible advantage to the republic which had alunched the empire. That is the best possible end of empire - the one that leaves a healthy republic standing. And I had hoped Trump - a past master of making the most of a bad situation - would be that guy.
I don't see attacking Iran as a good way to fold up the empire and restore the republic.
Only problem is the Status Quo is unbeatable.. You might as well try making spoiled milk drinkable.
